Blue Light
2022 Acrylic 18in” x 20in” Some individuals, such as tourists, may find it unfamiliar to walk around in a big city; these individuals may take pictures with their phones. After taking these pictures, they don't look at them again and leave them in their gallery. Why not take in the scene in front of you rather than taking pictures and viewing them on a screen? The subject of my art is how people can become completely immersed in their phones for up to 8 hours without realizing it. They would be on their phones for so long that they would be oblivious to what the real world really is. Instead, they use a handheld device to view the world instead of their own eyes.

The Captivity of Death
2023 Acrylic 26in” x 10in” My inspiration for this piece came from John Cleese who created “Dead Parrots don’t Lie.” I took this piece and derived my own meaning to it. If a bird's wings are cut, it will still be able to fly, but it will never be able to fly higher than two feet off the ground. They will never be free; despite their constant desire to fly, they will never get very far because their freedom has been taken away from them. They are essentially dead. It serves as an analogy for people who have had their freedom taken away. What good is a pretty bird if it is restricted from displaying its true beauty? This is a metaphor for people who live in places like Afghanistan and North Korea and are confined to the same routines because attempting to fly higher than two feet will result in their deaths.

A Bottle of Memories
2023 Acrylic 24in” x 16in” Everyone has an object that brings back memories for them, something that when they look at reminds them of a happy memory. Coca-Cola is mine because, as many people know, Mexico adores this refreshing beverage. So whenever I see a Coca-Cola bottle, I think of Mexico. This piece was inspired by a photograph I took of a Coca-Cola vending machine on a balcony in Mexico. Coca-Cola isn't the only thing I associate with happy memories; there are also other everyday objects that bring back happy memories for me like avocados, bears, and ducks. If I could put all of my memories in a bottle, it would be a Coca-Cola bottle.
